Free members: be logged in on the site. Use the deletion link. On that page, bottom right, it reads CANCEL: click it and follow the final steps.
Paying members: act the same way, otherwise read and follow: http://help.aol.com/help/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=ex&bbid=TSEBB_1273499895483&url=&stateId=1%201%20473446989&dialogID=2620914797&docTypeID=DT_AOLHOW_TO_1_1&externalId=219764&sliceId=1&rfId=&radios=False

TIP good to know
Publicly visible text/images often aren't properly deleted even when you succeed in deleting an account. Try editing or deleting them manually before deleting the account itself. If you're unsure what happens to your tracks: this can be found mostly in the Terms of Service/Privacy Policy; otherwise you can always contact AOL and ask personally. By the way, deletion requests don't necessarily mean your data will actually be deleted (e.g. due to legal obligations).
TIP Remove third-party logins
If you signed up for AOL using a third-party login such as Facebook or Twitter, you probably want to revoke all access from AOL. Click the icon below to find out how.
